WordPress templates use special template tags that retrieve information about your WordPress installation, such as the blog's name or a list of posts. The most critical part of the index.php template file is The Loop. This piece of code is the engine that powers much of WordPress.
To view The Loop, open the index.php file of the default theme, which is located in wordpress/themes/default (where wordpress is your WordPress directory).
